about

A blatant validation for childhood whimsy and nostalgia, this song introduces the original story by Monty’s grandma May Dunnington. Grandma not only wrote stories: she played in a jazz dance band (with Monty’s grandpa Harold Dunnington), and played for silent movies back in the day. Later she featured in a live performance with Monty and Ian Smith at Brighton’s Sallis Benny Theatre.

lyrics

“Do you remember, all those years ago? Grandma Grandma, told us a story. Do you remember sitting near the fire, eating chestnuts? (Tell us a story!) That was another time another day, trams and steam trains all gone away. Can someone tell me a good reason why, trams and steam trains all say “bye bye”?”
