  • The cosmic Brain Explodes

The Cosmic Brain Explodes is a Neo-gnostic treatise on the Eternal Truth.'On The Eternal Truth'? What on Earth (or in the Multiverse) can that mean in the 21st century? Surely today everything is relative and nothing is sacred! But there's the point: if it is in any sense 'Eternal' it must mean something in all times and places. What would you do if you found yourself commissioned by fate to write a book on such a subject? That is precisely the situation Monty Oxymoron (keyboard player of the Damned), was plunged into when he was training to be a psychiatric nurse before becoming a professional musician. After filling his brain with with world philosophy and literature, Gnosticism and psychology, then shaking it all up vigorously on stage, he allowed that brain to explode onto paper in a wild tempest of paradoxical ravings to inscribe the ineffable... 'Beyond the Beyond, there is an All and everything that knows; and it's knowing knows no ending...'Welcome to the Oxymoron Codex!

about

In the early 1990s I attended several workshops run by Daevid Allen of Gong in Street (near Glastonbury). Gong for me combine wonderful psychedelic music with a deep spiritual search that has also been an important part of my life and has led me via Jung to all of the world’s spiritual traditions, to Gnosticism, Sufism, Gurdjieff, Henry Corbin and world philosophy culminating in the release of my book “The Cosmic Brain Explodes” which is now available on-line. Daevid released a series of drones created with glissando guitar and those inspired these two pieces. They are based on bass guitar glissando which I found created a great range of over and undertones ( I got a bit obsessed with these after reading J.E. Berendt’s book “Nada Brahma; the World is Sound”). On top of these electric guitar glissando, hypnotic keyboard parts and Mongolian overtone singing are layered. (I was also influenced by David Hykes’ “Harmonic Choir”. Myself and my good friend Rod Paton attended a workshop run by Jill Purse on overtone singing.) So I dedicate these pieces to the loving memory of Daevid, who became a good friend after those workshops. Shortly after, and very short of dosh I tried interesting a local “New Age” shop in the tape I made: “Oh..., we don’t sell THAT kind of music”, the owner sniffed. The Hobgoblin beer advert comes to mind, as I find most New Age music insipid: What’s the matter lager boy; afraid you might TASTE something?” Yes,: “Afraid you might HEAR something...?”
