about

I was studying “Related Arts” at WSIHE (now Chichester University) and loved it! I had been working in psychiatric nursing full time before that and to do creative stuff full time was like a playground for me. I still remember it as one of my life’s happiest times. One day I decided to go into the college chapel and play the instruments in there: the big grand piano, the organ and a harpsichord: what fun! I has not long before attended a piano workshop run by Keith Tippett and also seen John Zorn’s “Naked City” play live. Somehow that day I really felt inspired, and all these improvisations are top form. The harpsichord pieces in particular vary in range from complex free jazz via baroque and boogie-woogie (Lieutenant Pigeon’s “Mouldy Old Dough”) through operatic recitative (a la Goonshow) to Rave! Whatever suggested itself I did in the moment; that’s how it was back then. I finished with the Duke Ellington classic “Things Just ‘Ain’t What They Used To Be”.
